GLENN HEIGHTS, Texas — As Glenn Heights begins its Fiscal Year 2026-2027 budget process, the Glenn Heights Police Department is requesting a modest increase to its operating budget while presenting several supplemental funding requests that will be considered by the Glenn Heights City Council over the coming weeks.
The department’s proposed operating budget would increase from $4,571,976 to $4,594,949, an increase of approximately $22,973, or 0.63%. According to the department’s June 2026 budget presentation, the increase reflects one-time vehicle purchases, increased repair and maintenance costs, the completion of the City’s previous Axon camera contract, and strategic hiring efforts.
In addition to its operating budget, the department is requesting funding for replacement patrol vehicles, a detective vehicle, a code compliance vehicle, new body-worn and in-car cameras, Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) technology, code enforcement software, officer training equipment, and dispatch improvements.
One of those requests, funding for ALPR technology, is scheduled for discussion during Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
Like every City department, however, the Police Department’s requests are part of a larger budget conversation. Over the next eight weeks, the City Council will review requests from every department while balancing public safety, infrastructure, parks, streets, utilities, and other municipal priorities before adopting the final budget.
Not every request presented during budget workshops will ultimately be funded. Council members must weigh the City’s available resources against competing needs across the organization before making final budget decisions.
The Police Department’s presentation provides an early look at its priorities for the coming fiscal year and highlights the challenges of maintaining public safety while serving a growing community. As budget discussions continue throughout the summer, residents will have opportunities to follow the process, attend meetings, and stay informed as the Council determines how available funds will be allocated.
