Glenn Heights Apartments: Aura Glenn Heights Heads to City Council for Final Vote July 7th

The Glenn Heights City Council is expected to consider final approval of the Aura Glenn Heights apartment development Tuesday, bringing back a project that sparked neighborhood concerns during public hearings last year.

Glenn Heights Apartments: City Council Set to Vote on Aura Glenn Heights Development Near Magnolia Farms

GLENN HEIGHTS — The Glenn Heights City Council is scheduled to consider final site plan approval Tuesday for the proposed Aura Glenn Heights apartment development, a project located at the northwest corner of Ovilla Road and South Uhl Road that has generated public discussion since receiving zoning approval last year.

Council members will consider the site’s final development plans, including the site plan, landscape plan, and building elevations for the apartment community. The proposal is part of the larger UHL Crossing mixed-use development.

Unlike last year’s vote, Tuesday’s agenda does not ask council members to rezone the property. The zoning was approved in July 2025. The action before the council concerns how the approved development will be built.

Aura Glenn Heights Apartments Received Zoning Approval in 2025

The Glenn Heights City Council approved the Planned Development in July 2025, allowing a mixed-use development consisting of multifamily housing and future commercial uses along Ovilla Road.

Planning documents describe the development as approximately 33 acres. Commercial development is planned closest to Ovilla Road, while the multifamily portion is located farther north.

Development regulations allow future commercial uses, including restaurants, neighborhood retail, office space, grocery stores, and other neighborhood services alongside the residential portion of the project.

Magnolia Farms Residents Previously Raised Privacy Concerns

During public hearings last year, residents living in Magnolia Farms voiced concerns about approving the three-story apartments adjacent to existing single-family homes.

Residents questioned whether upper-story apartment windows and balconies could overlook nearby backyards. Residents also raised questions about traffic and drainage.

City presentation materials identified traffic, drainage, and privacy as the primary issues discussed during the zoning process.

Developer Included Screening Between Aura Glenn Heights and Magnolia Farms

Planning documents presented to the council outlined several design features intended to reduce the impact on neighboring homes.

Those features include:

  • An 8-foot masonry screening wall along the northern property line adjacent to Magnolia Farms.
  • Trees will be planted approximately every 30 feet behind the screening wall.
  • No direct vehicle access between the apartment community and Magnolia Farms.
  • Residential buildings will be designed so that apartment windows primarily face east and west rather than directly toward homes north of the development.

Presentation materials also state that both the apartment community and the proposed self-storage facility nearest Magnolia Farms will operate as gated developments.

What Is Planned for the Glenn Heights Apartments?

According to development documents approved with the zoning request, Aura Glenn Heights is planned as part of a mixed-use community that combines apartments, future commercial development, and open space.

Planning documents describe three-story apartment buildings with amenities that may include landscaped courtyards, recreational facilities, a clubhouse, a fitness center, a business center, and other common gathering spaces.

Glenn Heights City Council Vote Scheduled Tuesday

The Glenn Heights City Council agenda lists consideration of the Aura Glenn Heights Site Plan, Landscape Plan, and Elevation Plans during Tuesday night’s meeting. Approval would allow the project to move forward under the zoning regulations adopted last year.

Residents who wish to comment on the proposal may address the Glenn Heights City Council before members vote on the item.
