The Glenn Heights Fire Department is seeking funding for three more firefighter/paramedics and several other projects in the city’s proposed 2026-27 budget.
A June budget presentation shows the department’s proposed operating budget would rise from $3.26 million to $3.39 million, a 3.9% increase over the current year.
In addition to the base budget, the department submitted several supplemental funding requests.
The largest request is $295,478 to add three firefighter/paramedics. The department says the new hires would improve staffing for its engine, ladder truck and ambulance and boost flexibility.
Other supplemental requests include:
- $30,500 for vehicle maintenance as repair costs climb.
- $24,000 for a maintenance contract for Stryker emergency medical equipment, such as cardiac monitors, CPR devices and powered stretchers.
- $3,000 to expand fire prevention and public education efforts.
- $12,056 to lease eight automated external defibrillators for city buildings as part of the CPR initiative.
The department trained 76 city employees and more than 100 residents in CPR and Stop the Bleed in 2026, the presentation says. None of the city’s facilities currently have defibrillators.
The Glenn Heights City Council is expected to consider the requests as it works on the 2026-27 budget.
