GLENN HEIGHTS — Residents are calling for more retail, restaurants and commercial development in the City of Glenn Heights, according to early responses to the Glenn Heights Future Community Budget Priorities Survey.
The survey, launched this month, asks residents how the city should prioritize future spending and investment. While the survey remains open, retail and commercial development are the most common themes among responses so far.
Similar comments have appeared on the Glenn Heights Future Facebook page, where residents have called for grocery stores, restaurants and more shopping options as the city grows.
Several survey participants said attracting businesses should be a higher priority than adding more housing.
One resident wrote:
“Hire an economic developer that knows what they’re doing and will work their butt off to bring services to Glenn Heights. There is no reason for me to give you tax dollars when I have to shop in neighboring towns.”
Another respondent urged city leaders to slow housing growth until more services are available.
“Stop increasing residential development until we have infrastructure — good roads, low-cost water, grocery stores, hardware stores, a retail town center.”
Others emphasized the need for everyday conveniences.
“If we can have a data center, we should have a grocery store.”
Another resident wrote that Glenn Heights should prioritize “essential retail” before approving additional large-scale development.
While commercial growth was the top priority, residents also frequently mentioned street maintenance, traffic management, wastewater infrastructure and animal services as areas needing more attention.
The responses reflect a broader conversation as Glenn Heights prepares for continued population growth. Several residents said they want the city to attract businesses so people can shop, dine and use services closer to home instead of traveling to other communities.
