The Glenn Heights City Council is scheduled to consider authorizing an independent audit and financial consulting firm to review the City’s financial operations during its meeting Tuesday night.
The proposal, sponsored by Council Member Shaunte Allen, appears as Agenda Item No. 6 on the July 7 City Council agenda. According to the agenda, the proposed review would examine the City’s financial condition, accounting practices, internal controls and compliance while providing recommendations to improve financial management, ensure compliance, and support long-term stability and transparency.
Unlike many agenda items considered by the Glenn Heights City Council, the proposal is not accompanied by a staff report or supporting memorandum explaining the request. The agenda packet also does not identify a consulting firm, provide a cost estimate or outline a proposed timeline for completing the review.
As a result, several questions remain unanswered ahead of Tuesday’s meeting, including what prompted the proposal, how broad the independent financial review would be and what the Council hopes to accomplish through an outside evaluation.
Those details may become clearer during Tuesday night’s public discussion.
The proposal comes as the City continues preparing for budget discussions and long-term financial planning while addressing major infrastructure and operational priorities. Although the agenda provides only a brief description of the requested review, the discussion could provide residents with additional insight into the proposal and the reasoning behind it.
Because the item is listed as a discussion and possible action item, the Glenn Heights City Council could approve the proposal, amend it, postpone consideration or decline to move forward.
Residents wishing to comment on the proposed independent financial review may do so during the public comment portion of Tuesday night’s meeting before the Council considers the agenda item.
