GLENN HEIGHTS – Summer break is winding down, and the Glenn Heights back-to-school countdown has begun.
Because Glenn Heights is served by both DeSoto ISD and Red Oak ISD, students will return to class on different dates, with each district offering its own back-to-school events and resources to help families prepare for the 2026-27 school year.
Students in DeSoto ISD will begin classes on Monday, Aug. 10, while Red Oak ISD students will return on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
In Red Oak ISD, families can kick off the school year at the district’s annual Back-to-School BASH on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Red Oak Middle School. The event will offer free immunizations and health screenings, along with limited school supplies and clear backpacks for enrolled students while supplies last. More than 100 community organizations and vendors are expected to participate.
Elementary campuses in Red Oak ISD will also host Meet the Teacher events from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, giving students and parents an opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms and prepare for the first day of school.
DeSoto ISD has released its academic calendar for the new school year and is encouraging families to watch for campus announcements regarding Meet the Teacher events and other back-to-school activities. Individual campuses will share details in the days leading up to the start of classes.
Both districts have also published school supply lists to help parents prepare before the school year begins. Red Oak ISD has posted grade-level lists on its website, while DeSoto ISD has released supply lists for students from prekindergarten through 12th grade in both English and Spanish.
District officials encourage families to complete student registration, confirm transportation arrangements, review school supply lists and monitor campus communications before classes begin.
