Families preparing for the start of a new school year will have an opportunity to pick up free school supplies, connect with community organizations and enjoy a morning of family-friendly activities during the City of Glenn Heights’ annual Back-to-School Bash, according to city officials.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8, from 8 a.m. to noon at Glenn Heights City Center, 1938 S. Hampton Road, city officials said.
Free backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to Glenn Heights students and teachers while supplies last, according to the city. Distribution is limited to four backpacks per household for families and five backpacks per teacher. To receive supplies, participants must present a physical identification card showing a Glenn Heights address. Items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to school supply giveaways, the event will feature a variety of activities, including:
- Kids Zone
- Touch-a-Truck displays
- Health screenings and physicals
- Blood drive
- Raffles and giveaways
- Community resource booths and family activities
The Back-to-School Bash is one of the city’s annual community events, bringing together local organizations, businesses and volunteers to help students prepare for the new school year.
Organizations interested in participating as vendors are encouraged to apply through the city. Vendors are expected to provide an interactive activity, educational information, giveaways or another incentive that engages students and families. Applications are subject to city approval, officials said.
With the first day of school just around the corner, city officials encourage families to arrive early, as supplies are expected to go quickly.
