GLENN HEIGHTS — The Glenn Heights City Council is expected to recognize resident Lily Williams during Tuesday night’s meeting after she was selected as the recipient of the Best Southwest Partnership and Mayoral Initiative Scholarship.
According to a proclamation prepared for presentation, Williams will be honored for her academic achievement, leadership, athletic accomplishments, and commitment to community service.
A graduate of Cedar Hill Collegiate High School, Williams plans to attend The University of Texas, where she will study civil engineering while pursuing her long-term goal of becoming an architect specializing in historic restoration.
The proclamation highlights Williams’ accomplishments both inside and outside the classroom. She served as a four-year varsity softball player, including two seasons as the team’s starting pitcher, and was active in the National Honor Society and Business Professionals of America. She and her teammates also earned second place in a website development competition and advanced to the national competition.
Williams was also recognized for volunteering in the DeSoto community and supporting programs at the local library.
Mayor Sonja A. Brown’s proclamation describes Williams as an outstanding representative of Glenn Heights whose dedication to education, leadership, and service inspires other young people.
The recognition is scheduled to be presented during Tuesday’s Glenn Heights City Council meeting.
